MTB: Settle – a Long Loop
If you’ve been around the Settle Loop and want to extend it, here is one option. It adds in a section of Mastiles Lane and a loop to Malham past Gordale Scar, before a testing climb up Stockdale Lane and a long descent to Settle taking in an extra off tarmac section.Route Info
Here is an extended version of the well known Settle Loop. Settle is a great little market town with Three Peaks Cycles right in the centre where you can hire a bike.
A tough climb starts out of Settle and carries on up the stone track of Gorbeck Road. This takes you over towards Malham Tarn. A short section of tarmac and then it is on to Mastiles Lane – a classic green lane which dates back to roman times. You leave this at Bordley and double back on some other great tracks with a quick tarmac descent into Malham village.
The climb back out is tough initially on a grass surface, then a bit of tarmac and then on to Stockdale Lane which is a mix of grass and stone. Once you hit the summit the descent back to Settle is a classic.
